Updated: Nov 12, 2020

A wellness retreat in Rishikesh, India can be a truly life-changing experience for you if you fully indulge yourself in the benefits that the practice of yoga provides. Speaking from personal experience, I think that it is an experience that everyone would benefit from at some point in their life.

A part of northern India, tucked into the blanket of The Great Himalayas with the holy River Ganges flowing through, there is not even a doubt of one percent that this city attracts end number of dedicated yoga practitioners and tourists.

I was lucky enough to experience the culture of India last summer, become a part of the yoga community and experienced loads of things that I never knew were possible. However, it was not the experience I had imagined, and it certainly was not always that easy for me and many others like me.

Looking back, I realize how unprepared I was for this trip. There are so many things that I wish I had known back then before going on this trip as it might have helped me and made my mental journey a bit easier. So, to help you to avoid the same mistake, outlined below are few things that should consider before joining a meditation retreat in India.

Points To Consider Before Joining A Meditation Retreat In India

Make Sure You Plan Your Trip Accordingly

Satsangs are a common spiritual event that comes under the tradition of India. Dedicated students from across the globe come to Rishikesh to be in the presence of experienced yoga teachers and instructors. The best time to come to India to join attend satsungs is between February to mid-March. So, if you are interested in Satsungs, make sure you pack bags by the end of January.

Do Not Forget To Get Your Earplugs

Whether it is the sound of a motorbike, a car, the mooing of cows, a horse-drawn carriage, the irritating chatter of monkeys, random chit-chat between a group of people, or a spiritual and ceremonial procession, India is very loud without any doubt. You just cannot sleep if a festive season is going on. Trust me, it can get quite disruptive. So keep your earplugs in your bag.

Make Use Of Blanket Scarf

If by any chance you are planning to travel in the colder months of the year, a blanket scarf will serve you for many purposes. It will be used to cover your shoulders and to keep you extremely warm in the early mornings and evenings. While practicing different yoga asanas and pranayamas, you will find yourself sitting on the floor for long periods. So, folding up your blanket scarf as an extra cushion can also serve as a huge help for your level of comfort.

Bottom Line

No matter what it is that is calling you to India, the most important thing that you need to keep in mind is don’t forget to be in the moment. Make sure you enjoy the culture, the hustle and bustle, and the vibration of the festivals Allow your mind and heart to be opened by the charm of India.
